This past Sunday Joel had a few surprises in store for me. I knew something was up the night before when Joel said "tomorrow is going to be a good day." I wanted to say "who are you and what have you done with my husband," but I went with it. Then Sunday morning roles around and by noon I think I had heard "today is going to be a good day," about 3 times. I was starting to wonder what was up but at the same time not getting my hopes up too much so I wouldn't be disappointed later. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed later. Here's the run down of the day:
After church and a very long nap, I was planning on Joel and I going to the house where I had been house sitting and spending a nice relaxing evening there in front of the TV. Around 4:30 I was ready to head over there and Joel said there was a change of plans and that I need to get dressed up. I asked if what I were to church was ok and he said no. So I put on my fancy red dress and my super cute flower shoes and pulled out my matching wallet. He let the secret slip and told me we were going to Romeo's to eat. (We had just been in a little fight (actually I wouldn't even really call it a fight) a couple nights before so I thought this was him making up for it...but it wasn't....you'll see why in a min).
Joel got up twice during our dinner to go to the bathroom. The second time I definitely did not go towards the restroom. :) So I knew there was something more, but I had no idea what. After paying for our food we walked out to the car. He opened the door for me(which isn't out of the ordinary) and in my seat I saw a bag sitting there. I looked in the bag and saw two pairs of binoculars and a card. Here are my thoughts as I looked at the binoculars: "Crap!! Joel's trying to be all sweet but this is going to be a disaster. He wants to take us start gazing possibly at Mt Bonnell and I'm in a dress and VERY painful shoes." So with a half smile I asked if I could open the card. When I opened it I saw two Wicked tickets taped to the side of it!!!!!!!! My thoughts at this moment were: "AAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"
I could not believe Joel had bought me tickets to go see the one Broadway show I had been dying to see for 2 years. The show that I have learned all the songs to. The show that Joel and I had talked about and agreed we would just have to see it another time because of our financial situation.
The car ride there consisted of me asking the same question over and over "Are you serious?!?!?!" It turns out Joel had bought the tickets when they first went on sale back in May. He kept it a secret for 3 months!!!!!!
Needless to say, the show was amazing. It was better than I could have ever imagined. And I sang every song...in my head...so I wouldn't get kicked out. The binoculars were perfect, we could see every detail. Oh yea, not only did Joel take me to dinner and get me Wicked tickets, but he also let me get a shirt(and we all know how much shirts cost at things like this) to remember the special event.
Therefore, please accept my nomination of Joel Cowen for the Best Husband Of the Year Award!!
*One sad detail, I didn't have my camera to take pictures of us because I had let Megan borrow it. So I will leave you with some pictures that are not mine.
One of the funniest scenes of the movie!!
